6 (Terrifying) Things You Must Do To Succeed

“If you do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got.”

There is no short cut to running a successful business. The process is scary and rewarding, and traumatizing and amazing. I know because I have done it three times now. Well, actually, I am in the middle of my 3rd big endeavor (planning a Women’s Conference, Rebelle Con)

This is why all of the challenges I help my clients work through are currently bubbling up in my own project.

Having been here before, I remember them all. Here are some of the terrifying things you are going to have to do to launch/grow/build something worthwhile:

Take things step by step. Many of those steps are going to be in a direction you have never gone before. You are going to feel impatient. That feeling doesn’t get anything to happen faster.

Take leaps of faith. Whether that means spending money you were saving (or money you don’t have!) to get you where you need to go. There is no way to do something you have never done before with out some level of risk.

Ask for things like money and help and buy-in from people you care about and from strangers, too. NO ONE can do it alone and no one is sitting around waiting to give you the opportunity of your lifetime.

Be seen. There is no hiding when you are growing your successful business. You can try to stay behind the scenes, but not much can get done back there all by yourself.

Receive not so awesome feedback. Not everyone is going to love and support you 100% of the time. You must be willing to take negative feedback (often from people you care about) and decide how to use it to make your thing better.

Get tired. Because building a business is exhausting! When I get tired, I want to quit, but luckily I have learned to read the signs and find a way to take a nap. (Not joking.) It’s too easy to throw in the towel when you are feeling depleted, but taking a break is not the same thing as giving up.

I am here to say that all of this is worth it. No matter what happens we will all be more awesome on the other side.

If you are looking for more: I am opening two spots to work with me on a 1-1 basis mid-September. If you know you need to work on some of the above listed things, I can help! I would love to schedule a time to chat with you.
