Don't Fall In This Marketing Trap

There-Is-No-Marketing-Resized.jpg

There are a lot of marketing strategists and business coaches out there. It seems like millions of them, all promising that if you use their simple one step system you will triple your business in 6 months, work a 4-hour workweek, and not spend a dime (except for their small fee).

Sorry to be a Debbie-downer, but in order to grow a successful and sustainable business, you have to be doing more than just one thing when it comes to marketing. There is no magic wand that you can wave to get thousands of customers banging down your door. Plus, the ways people are learning about new products, services, and businesses are changing all the time.

I just watched a series of videos promoting an “evergreen marketing funnel for fitness businesses” and quite frankly, it makes me mad. This guy is telling business owners that if they just pay him to set up Facebook ads, a series of emails, and a landing page on their website they will triple their income. That is simply not going to happen.

Will they get more leads by implementing his system than if they have no system in place? Yes, but will it solve all of their small business marketing problems forever and ever? Absolutely, no.

If there were just one trick that you set up one time and walk away, that will give you an endless stream of new and returning customers, the marketing industry would not exist. The real truth, the sometimes bummer truth, is that you need to be doing more than just one thing to make sure you are reaching the people who buy things from you and become part of your community.

But here is the good part: you don’t have to be spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours each week on your marketing to take your small business from good to great. You can take small steps to improve what you do and how people find you, and most of those activities don’t cost a ton of money.

My one-on-one clients know that I never approach a problem from just one angle. I work with each business to find multiple ways to attract the right people and keep them coming back. No magic wand, no eggs in one basket, no inside the box thinking, no <insert your favorite idiom here>. You can learn more about what it’s like to work with me here.

But you don't have to be a client to get access to my approach. I send out ideas every week to help small businesses be better at marketing with the resources they have. If you want to get them, sign up here.
